| Pedicure Spa Pump Comparison - Many pedicure spas have been built using the Wow pumps, model PUWWCAS508R, PUWWCES508R, PUWWCES598R, and PUWWCAS598R. These pumps were designed as whirlpool bath tub pumps, for residential use. The commercial use demands of the pedicure industry are severe. Pumps must run many hours per day, are often lacking in sufficient ventilation for cooling air, and the pump seals are frequently exposed to cleaning products leaving a residue on the seals. Often, pedicure spa owners wish to upgrade to a pump better suited to continuous use, and these are available in the form of the Ultima II series pumps, with standard 48 frame motors, such as model PUUTCAS706R, or PUUTCAS708R, or with a larger version of the Wow motor, known as a Power Wow, such as model PUUTCAS708PR, or PUUTCES708PR. In some pedicure spa chairs, this is a fairly easy upgrade, as there is sufficient space for a larger motor. The Ultima II series uses the same pump housings as the Wow pumps, so the plumbing connections are the same. But, with the 48 frame or Power Wow motors in their standard orientation, the inlet and outlet are a bit higher in elevation than a standard Wow pump's inlet and outlet. Look at the photos, see the ones shown in 'standard' orientation. Thanks to some smart pedicure spa owners, who told us the PUUTCAS706R or PUUTCAS708R and PUUTCES708PR pumps fit in their units when they simply rotated them 90 degrees, there is now an opportunity to upgrade when you replace your pump. Look at the photos that show the modified orientation, the motors are shown laying on their side, with the pump head rotated 90 degrees, so the plumbing connections are at nearly the same elevation as the Wow pumps. The purpose of upgrading is not to push more water, but to get a stronger motor that is better able to take the demands of pedicure spa use. An important note: do not assume you can upgrade to a fatter, longer motor, unless you actually look and measure. If you do have the space, it is a benefit. If you choose to upgrade to a Power Wow motor or a 48 frame motor, you can add notes at the end of your order, and ask for the original, smaller impeller found in your Wow pump. The reason to request this, is to keep the water flow and pressure the same as what you are used to now. If you do not request this, you can expect much higher flow and pressure from the PUUT series pumps, which may not be desireable. Just tell us what your original pump model number was, and we'll supply your new upgrade pump with your original size impeller. An optional motor pad can be useful in positioning these larger motors on their side. |
